This Unit will present some of the main areas of inquiry in Philosophy; through the various topics delivered in this unit, participants will be able to understand the issues at hand and engage in stimulating debate.

The topics covered in this Unit include:

Art and its Value
The Birth of Modernity: The Thinking Subject, Science and Politics
Things in the world
Ways to God
The End of Humanity?
Philosophy as Consolation
Nietzsche, Foucualt and Agamben
The Philosophy of Economic Sustainability
Philosophy of Animals.

Identify and understand basic theories and concepts related to the topics discussed in the Unit;
Construct and develop sound and coherent arguments.

By the end of the Unit the student will be able to:

Engage more meaningfully in philosophical discussions;
Employ appropriate thinking tools when addressing philosophical questions;
Apply analytical and critical skills learnt during the Unit.
